International Women’s Day event planned for March 4 at TROY’s International Arts Center

"An Evening of Music and Poetry" showcases talented women faculty.

Faculty and staff from across Troy University have collaborated to host the third annual “An Evening of Music and Poetry” on March 4 in recognition of  International Women’s Day. The event is free and open to the public.

“An Evening of Music and Poetry” will be held Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m.

A collaboration between the Hall School of Journalism and Communication and the John M. Long School of Music, the first event was held in 2022 and brings together women from the Music, Journalism and Communication, Marketing, International Programs and World Languages and Cultures departments.

“Not only do I get to collaborate with our wonderful women colleagues on campus, but we also provide a great multicultural experience to the community,” said Dr. Hui-Ting Yang, Interim Director of the School of Music.

Among other musical acts, women faculty members will recite poetry in their native languages to include English, Urdu, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

“I’m so thankful for this opportunity to showcase women writers and composers from all over the world,” said Dr. Shari Hoppin, Associate Professor in the HSJC.

The Monday, March 4 event will be held at the International Arts Center at 7 p.m.
