Troy University’s College of Health Sciences, through the Wiregrass Alabama Area Health Education Center (WAAHEC) and in collaboration with the UAB Department of Surgery, will host the Wiregrass Trauma Team Conference and Workshop on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jones Hall, 600 University Ave., Troy, AL. Lunch will be provided.
This American College of Surgeons (ACS) accredited course equips physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, residents, medical and nursing students, faculty, and other clinicians with the latest trauma regulations, advanced treatment techniques, and hands-on skills for critically injured patients. With evolving trauma center designations across Alabama, timely decision-making and transfer protocols are more vital than ever for rural communities in Alabama and Georgia.
The workshop will be led by a team of UAB healthcare professionals headed by two Trauma Surgeons: Dr. Shannon Carroll, Associate Professor and ATLS Instructor with research in thoracic wall injuries, transfusion protocols, and thrombotic events; and Dr. Samantha Baker, Assistant Professor who completed trauma fellowship training at LSU and holds an M.S. in Health Professions Education.
Participants will gain practical skills in organized team-based trauma response, initial assessment & stabilization, updated treatment protocols, real-world case studies, transfer decision-making, and understanding trauma team roles. Attendees are asked to bring a phone or laptop to complete online pre- and post-test evaluations during the workshop. Open to all appropriate personnel across the Wiregrass region, Alabama, and Georgia. Accredited by the ACS for 4 hours of GME/CE credits and a certificate of completion.
