Seven to compete for title of Miss Troy University on Thursday

Contestants compete in the 2023 Miss Troy University Pageant. This year's event is set for 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8 in the Claudia Crosby Theater.

Seven Troy University students will compete for the title of Miss Troy University on Thursday, Feb. 8.

The pageant will begin at 6 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for the public.

The winner will serve as an ambassador for the University and will compete for the title of Miss Alabama later this year. Candidates are judged on a private interview, an on-stage conversation, health and fitness, talent and evening gown.

Candidates in this year’s pageant are:

  • Grace Shellhouse, a sophomore Political Science major with a Legal Studies minor, from Andalusia. Her social impact platform is “Meredith’s Miracles.” She will be performing a lyrical dance to “Torn.”
  • Ashlyn Simpson, a senior Biology major with a Psychology minor, from Dothan. Her social impact platform is “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.” She will be performing a monologue recitation.
  • Reanna Thompson, a senior Graphic Design and General Business double major from Panama City, Fla. Her social impact platform is “Local Animal Rescue.” She will be performing a baton routine to “Uptown Funk.”
  • Gracie Beth Scrushy, a senior Human Services major with a Dance minor, from Houston, Texas. Her social impact platform is “Wonderfully Made Me.” She will be performing a musical theater dance to “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
  • Taylor Jones, a sophomore Elementary Education major, from Rehobeth. Her social impact platform is “Talk with Taylor: F.R.E.E. Your Anxiety.” She will be performing “Home” by Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros.
  • Sarah Jane Houston, a sophomore Psychology major, from Albany, Ga. Her social impact platform is “See It. Be It.” She will be performing “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked.”
  • Laney Kelley, a freshman Marketing major, from Defuniak Springs, Fla. Her social impact platform is “Laney’s Lunches.” She will be originating a creative painting in under two minutes.
