TROY‘s Office of Civic Engagement held an event for students to take part in the community by vamping up Troy Elementary School’s playground with new mulch.
“We are helping with some mulch here on their playgrounds,” says Office of Civic Engagement Coordinator Lauren Cochran. “Students are just diving in with some shovels and putting the mulch back in the playground area and so it’s also really fun because the kids are out here this afternoon and so they’re really excited about the lava going back into the playground.”
With shovels and wheelbarrows the students got to work and lay mulch while getting to enjoy interacting with children as they played during recess.
“We’re very centered around the community and service,” says Student Volunteer Nick Molk. “So obviously through the MLK days of service it just allows us to give back to the community. Like all of our other events and this is a huge part of our community is our school system so it’s just great to give back and especially with like the playgrounds because I mean I used to be there when I was little so it’s just nice to be able to help out and this to see the community flourish.”
