New statue greets visitors to the Troy University Library

There is a new and returning addition to the Troy University campus outside of Wallace Hall.

The Student Scholar statue created by artist Huo Bao Zhu now has a home in front of the university library.

Previously the statue was placed in front of Rushing Hall but after a few years of storage it now resides in a different part of campus.

“Well the statue came to us maybe three years ago from the artist Huo Bao Zhu who died maybe a year ago and was a really good friend of Dr. Hawkins,” says Dean of Libraries Dr. Chris Shaffer. “He’s also the person who designed and donated many of the terra cotta warriors and also some other statues on campus you may have noticed for the past few years.”

Shaffer says that he hopes this new addition to campus will help inspire students who are heading into the library.

“I think artwork of any kind has the ability to to truly inspire the onlooker,” says Shaffer. “I think that this will serve as a great inspiration for our students.”
