TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The news is out: Troy University will host the Sun Belt Conference Football Championship for the second year in a row.
As the University prepares to play host, students say they are excited to see the battle at home.
“Really excited about us hosting the championship this weekend,” said freshman Mattie Register. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I get to hang out with my friends. I got a lot of friends coming in from different places to come visit.”
“I’m looking forward to the Sun Belt Championship game,” said junior Olivia McDaniel. “I didn’t get to go last year so I’m really excited to be able to go this year.”
“This is my first game so obviously I’m super excited for that and I think the Trojans have done really good all football season,” said junior Madison Tapia. “I think Sumrall has done a really good job at coaching them and making sure they’re prepared for the game. I think it’ll go really good and, hopefully, we’ll get a win.”
Troy University students are excited about getting to host the championship for the second year in a row, however, some may not be excited about who TROY is hosting. Dedicated fans remember the upsetting defeat the last time TROY played App State.
“I think the atmosphere will be electric,” said graduate student Audra Thompson. “I know our football players are coming out for revenge because that Hail Mary hurt them a lot last year. They’re coming back to for blood this this week.”
“App State they’re a team that can that can upset you,” said sophomore Braden Tillery. “We saw that last year with the Hail Mary but I think we can pull it out.”
“I mean obviously they were disappointed with the game last year but that was early in the season,” said junior Braeden Coulter. “They rolled off like 10 straight wins so I mean they know what they can do. They want to get revenge but I don’t think there’s any kind of bad blood.”
Fans will have to wait until December 2nd to watch Troy take on App State. Ticket information for the game can be found here.
