TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — With the football season now underway, fans are once again tailgating on Troy University’s campus, this time under new guidelines.

Over the summer, Troy University published a revised tailgating policy, which sparked backlash from fans on social media. Many of the guidelines listed were later reversed.

“My initial gut feeling was a little bit reserved and a little bit disappointed that we wouldn’t be able to continue our tradition of tailgating after the game,” said Xavier Fields, a frequent of Troy’s tailgates. “Sometimes we don’t want to go into the game, but we still want to support our Trojans from the sidelines.”

Fields said he is glad the university cares about fans opinions.

“I’m glad that Troy has reversed that. It reinforces the idea that they listen to the hometown people, and they cater to us. And while all still keeping us safe at the same time”

Not all policy changes faced scruitny. Fields says some changes make him feel safer while on campus.

“The added security is really one thing, especially because we want to have fun and cut loose a little bit. You still want to do anything in a safe manner. Clear bag policy is also great. It’s easy, it gives a little bit of peace of mind and they’re able to check if you’ve got anything. I think it’s great for everybody, and it speeds up the process.”
