Head Coach Scott Cross reaches 300th career win

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Men’s basketball head coach Scott Cross has surpassed 300 career wins.

Head coach Scott Cross picked up the 300th win of his coaching career when the Troy men’s basketball team defeated Georgia State 78-74 at the GSU Convocation Center.

Although 300 wins is special, Cross believes the focus should remain on his team.

“The only thing you felt is excitement over winning that particular game and giving ourselves a chance to stay at the top of the Sunbelt Conference. The actual number 300 didn’t mean a whole lot to me. To be in contention for a conference championship and win that game, that is what meant everything. We’d love to break a school record at one point here at TROY. Win the most games, win the Sunbelt Championship, love to win a game in the NCAA Tournament.”

Although basketball is a game, Cross says he uses it as a tool to develop his players into men.

“All the discipline and toughness they have to show to play basketball is going to make them, in my opinion going to help them have more success,” Cross explained.

Cross also has a small piece of advice for anyone interested in becoming a coach.

“Finding a way to make yourself valuable to coaches. Whether is having a skill like being really great at photo shop or knowing every single player in the state of Alabama or just having skills and then helping coaches, being a resource for them. Eventually, it’ll come back around and they’ll get their opportunity.”

The Trojans will be back in action Thursday, Feb. 22 as they travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
