Alpha Omicron Pi hosts Shop Out Arthritis

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Students who like to shop till they drop got to do that and support a good cause.

Thursday, Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) hosted its “Shop Out Arthritis” event to raise money for its philanthropy partner, the Arthritis Foundation (AF).

“We asked our sorority girls, and then we asked girls in other sorties to clean out their closets, and then they have the little tags, and they write their name, the total amount they want to sell it for, and then their Venmo,” AOII Philanthropy Chair Maddie Osborne said.

The event featured clothing and shoe donations from sorority women, which, members say, created a win-win deal for sellers and the sorority.

“Half of it goes back towards the seller, and then the other half goes to us and is donated to the arthritis foundation,” Osbourne explained.

Along with racks of clothing and shoes, the sorority also offered permanent jewelry for an additional cost and various pieces at discounted prices.

“I love shopping, but most of the time it’s just going to a company, but now I can also benefit from doing what I love, which is shopping,” said shopper Ana Thompson.

This is the fourth spring AOII has hosted Shop Out Arthritis. The sorority plans to continue this event each year.
