Sorority Pledge Class of 2020 experiences Bid Day

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Four years after the Troy University sorority pledge class of 2020 missed its Bid Day Run, sisters were able to run home.

Imagine you’re a college freshman who’s gone through a long process of recruitment, and you finally get to find out what sorority you’re going to be a part of. That’s what Bid Day is. Each August, girls run from Elm Street Gym to Sorority Hill to join their new sorority sisters. However, the freshman class of 2020 didn’t get that experience.

“We were actually one of the only three or five schools to be able to do in-person recruitment, but of course, it was in classrooms and six feet away,” said Alpha Gamma Delta sister Anna Grace Holland.

Holland joined Alpha Gamma Delta her freshman year of college. For the past three years, she’s been able to watch a recruitment experience she missed out on.

“Just being able to come today and get together really shows,” Holland said. “We had Bid Day on the quad, so just being able to run home to our house is super fun.”

One senior talks about how this is a special moment for her and the other seniors who missed out on traditional bid day.

“We were the only pledge class who didn’t get one, so it was really special,” said Phi Mu sister Madison Mallick. “I was really surprised. I didn’t even know it was happening, so it was really cool for it to be able to happen for us.”

Troy University’s Pan-Hellenic Council hosts Bid Day once every Fall and Spring semester. Registration for Fall 2024 Recruitment will begin on May 1.

Sorority Recruitment for Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Chi Omega, Kappa Delta and Phi Mu is August 5-10, 2024.
