Meet TROY’s new SGA President-Elect

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — TROY’s Student Government Association‘s (SGA) presidential office will soon have a new occupant.

During the 2024 executive officer elections, Betsy Bennett was elected president of Troy University’s SGA. However, that’s not where her on-campus political career began.

“I’ve been in SGA since I was a freshman,” said Bennett. “I did Freshman Forum, which is sort of the freshman branch of SGA, and then I also was the public relations chair for SGA my sophomore year, and then this year, I serve as the vice president of campus affairs.”

Before Bennett even set foot on TROY’s campus, she already knew she wanted to be involved and make a difference.

“In high school, I did SGA, and I knew I wanted to get involved coming in,” Bennett explained. “I thought this was the perfect way for me to kind of get acclimated to college, and also meet a diverse group of people that I probably wouldn’t meet every day.”

Bennett has kept that mentality throughout her time in college, and plans to carry it into her presidency.

“I really want to make students aware of the resources that we have available on campus, just because a lot of students don’t know about these and we can really become more aware of all of these resources.”

Bennett said she wants students to know their opinion matters to her and to the SGA.

“I think it’s so important that everyone makes sure that you have a voice on our campus and use that voice,” Bennett told TrojanVision.

Bennett will be inaugurated on April 9, 2024. In the meantime, she will continue her role as vice president of campus affairs.
