Students see professors’ art during faculty art exhibit

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The International Arts Center (IAC) is featuring the work of several local artists many students know by name: their professors and instructors.

Last week, TROY introduced a new exhibit for students to enjoy, with a twist. The work on display is all created by TROY faculty members.

“We do this every other year,” said Professor and Interim Department Chair Greg Skaggs. “It showcases our faculty and gives us a chance to show off a little.”

Skaggs says it’s important for professors to put into practice what they teach.

“It’s a great way for students to connect with their professors and to know that they’re also working artists. They’re not just teaching, but they’re also makers.”

The exhibit not only offers a variety of work for visitors to enjoy, but also gives a glimpse into what’s going on in the art department.

“You will definitely see a lot of playful things and how artists work and think,” Skaggs told TrojanVision. “I think it’s a good indication of what’s being taught in the classroom.”

The pieces being showcased are open to all students and the community as a way to see another side of TROY faculty.

The exhibit will be open in the IAC until April 14.
