Meet TROY’s competition-winning gymnastics team

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy University is home to a brand new, and award-winning, Gymnastics Club.

The club, which was formed in Fall 2023, is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs. Its members strengthen their coordination by using bars and balance beams.

“I love the environment here and that is really why I became a part of the team,” said freshman gymnast Hannah Cox. “It’s really just doing something for fun. It’s not as tough as a gymnastics team would be, as like a USAG team. Even if you were a gymnast before, this is just so different from anything that I have ever done before.”

Gymnasts began competing in meets in February. In March, the team won the “Chomp the Swamp” Southeast Regional competition hosted by the University of Florida with a score of 107.

“That title means a lot to us, especially as a first-year program,” said founder, president and head coach Maren Settle. “We beat a lot of various established names and very big programs that we never expected to be able to compete against. So, bringing that title home to Troy means not only a lot to us but also a lot to the Troy community as well. Hopefully, that will help the program grow and get more attention.”
