TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The International Arts Center (IAC) is celebrating one of Troy University’s art professors.

Wednesday afternoon IAC Curator Carrie Jaxon welcomed students, faculty, staff and guests to the IAC for an Artist Talk honoring lecturer Sara Dismukes. The Artist Talk also featured lecturer Dr. Kenyon Holder.

Dismukes’ exhibition, Liminal, has been inside the IAC since April. Many of her works focus on places and things most people pass by without noticing.

Dismukes has described her art as challenging assumptions about culture and gender, value and decline and nature versus civilization.

Wednesday’s Artist Talk allowed Dismukes to explain her motivation and answer students’ questions about the exhibition and her lifestyle as an artist.

The IAC plans to hold a reception for Dismukes Thursday night at 5 p.m. inside the IAC lobby. The reception is open to the public.
