Trojan fans anticipate Troy football’s season opener

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — It’s officially game week for Troy football, meaning fans are ready to see the Trojans take the field for the first time.

Leading up to Troy football’s season opener for the 2024 season, TrojanVision has gotten previews and perceptions from head coach Gerad Parker as well as some of his players. But what do fans think about the new team and how do they feel about the first match of the season?

“I’m looking forward to the football team and the band,” said junior Jackson Milam. “I think it’s going to be great, since it’s been too long.”

“I’m looking forward to the freshman run to run on the field with all my new sorority sisters,” said freshman Laurie Mathison. “I’m so excited for that.”

“I’m looking forward to hanging out with my friends at the football game,” said junior Geniah Brown.

While some students are anticipating these engaging activities, others are more interested in how the new coaching staff and players are going to compete on the field this season in comparison to the 2023 season.

“I’m very confident in all of the football players,” said Zion Picacoste. “I feel like they are going to do great. I’ve seen them play before and I think that they are going to come out strong this season with the new coach.”

“I am very excited for Saturday night because I am ready for the game, tailgates and everything,” said sophomore Morgan Sullivan. “I hope our Trojans win this year.”

After securing back-to-back Sun Belt Championship Conference wins in 2022 and 2023 with former coach Jon Sumrall, many Trojan fans have confidence that this upcoming season will have just as many successful games, if not more, with Parker.

“I think that it will be a little bit different because the aspect of watching them practice through the Trojan Football Instagram page seems like the new coach is more hands on and just as encouraging as Sumrall was,” said junior Khennedi Rudolph. “It will be a different dynamic with the new coach.”

“Saturday night is going to be a showdown,” said senior Nard Thomas. “I’m excited for the fans to be back since it’s going to be awesome and an amazing day.”

Troy kicks off its season opener against Nevada on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. inside Veterans Memorial Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
