Troy heat changes practice for fall sports

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISON) — According to the weather channel, during the month of August Troy hit its highest temperature at 98 degrees. Another thing to hit Troy during the month of August was the beginning of soccer and football. Although both teams have had equal challenges, both seem to welcome the heat with open arms.

“They have been dealing with it fine we love it,” said head coach Jake Wyman.

Even with the indifference for the heat, both teams are taking precautionary measures to combat it. For example, football has been using a freezer crate to keep players cool. Soccer has been keeping a track on its players

“Obviously we monitor all the training loads the volume the intensity through our player data and all those metrics,” Wyman said. “Keenan and Uzi have done a really good job doing that, so were monitoring that and obviously were trying to make sure they hydrate, fuel them up with good food give them proper rest.”

Although heat varies in the Sun Belt Conference, both coaches seem to believe the heat itself doesn’t provide any benefits, but practicing in it will develop players for the season

“We want to train around the time we have kickoff during the season we cant do it exactly every week, but what we’ve tried to do is build in a few sessions a week in the heat so that were matching or mirroring those Sunday 1 p.m. kickoffs, those 12:30 kickoffs; where its inevitably gonna be hot down here in the south.”

Even though the heat doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, fall sports will continue to move through its season one day at a time.
