TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Joining a new club or sport can be scary, which is why inquiring students were invited to the Troy University Gymnastics Club‘s annual interest meeting with open arms.
The meeting included crucial information such as practice times and gym fees. It also served as a way to let potential new members know they are welcome, no matter their experience.
“I think its actually pretty easy to join our club,” said head coach Maren Settle. “I’m really involved and I reach out to people all the time so they can reach out to me or any of our current members, and then just attending our meetings joining our group me and following us on Instagram.”

“Reach out to any of us and we’ll answer all your questions we’re super inclusive even if you’ve never done gymnastics before you can join our club.”
Settle, along with some returning members, discussed what their plans are for the season. After a successful run last season, the team hopes to do it again, and maybe go further.
“We have our annual registration meeting coming up in late September where there’s actually a big announcement coming so I have no idea what our league is planning, but I’m super excited we’re hoping to make another nationals run again like we did last year.”
“We came second place in the nation so I’m really excited to do it again and maybe take home a first place title as well we’ll do lots of Meets in our region.”
Students who attended the meeting got their questions answered, which would hopefully help them make their decision on whether or not to join the club.
“The girls are really fun, they seem nice to hang out with,” said Ryleigh Beck, a freshman who attended the meeting. “I learned about the gym stuff.
“You can choose to compete or not compete which I really like.”
Even though competing is a large part of gymnastics, that is not the only thing that is important to members of the club.
“A lot of our gymnasts have created such a beautiful friendship through just meeting each other in gymnastics I wouldn’t know any of these girls if they wouldn’t have taken the leap to come to a meeting talk to me an join the club I think it’s just a huge community and we’re all so supportive and super positive,” said Settle.
