U.S. District Judge speaks to students about Constitution Day

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy University welcomed Senior United States District Judge Keith Watkins to campus.

Tuesday, Troy University’s College of Arts and Sciences and Pre-Law Society hosted Watkins who emphasized the importance of Constitution Day.

Payton Harrell, a sophomore majoring in political science, said she was reminded of the constitution’s importance and role in society.

“I learned that our freedom is not free, obviously,” said Harrell. “The Constitution is something that we need to abide by. It should never be done away with. Essentially, the Constitution is what we need to look back at for our rule of law.”

Watkins also discussed the history of the Constitution and why students should value it, a message Harrell said she took to heart.

“I think that it was important for us to be reminded of our history,” said Harrell. “The constitution is the foundation of what our country was built on. I think that it is very important for everyone to be reminded of its significance.”

Constitution Day is recognized annually on Sept. 17.
