Troy running back scores season’s first opening drive score

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Although Troy football has been receiving recognition for its successful weekend, it also has been noting a few key concepts from one of the running backs who were in action.

With Troy football’s first win of the 2024 season against FAMU, also came Troy’s longest run of the season. running back Damien Taylor scored a 40-yard touchdown run on Troy’s opening drive.

“This is probably our first game where, I want to say, all of us executed to the best of our abilities,” Taylor said. “Offensive wise, we played a great game as well as the defense.

“So, it’s our first time really binding together and as you can see, we had a solution and the success we wanted.”

Taylor’s touchdown also marked Troy’s first score this season on an opening drive. By the end of the night, number 3 on the field finished the game with 109 rushing yards on 15 carries.

“It felt great of course, but I think it feels even better seeing my team and the fans getting all hyped,” Taylor told TrojanVision. “It’s pretty much worth doing all that I got to do to help Troy out and just being the best version of myself for the team.”

This game also marked Taylor’s second touchdown of the season so far. Moving forward, Taylor will continue to work with his teammates through adversity.

“We didn’t exactly know what our adversity was going to be, but I guess our adversity was being at the start of the season with three losses straight,” Taylor said. “I will say that we handled it pretty well. Nobody started sloping or hanging their heads down, everybody just came each week with the mentality and opportunity to do better.

“Once we put everything together, we then know that we can actually succeed and get the guaranteed wins that we want.”
