TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy University’s very own Dr. Dave Camwell‘s duo, Covert Ensemble, recently released three new covers.

Covert Ensemble began during the COVID-19 pandemic when Camwell and Kateřina Pavlíková connected through social media. The two began working on projects remotely before meeting in Prague. Their latest body of work is a cover of Bedrich Smentana’s “Three Dances from the Bartered Bride,” songs, which Pavlíková hand-picked.

“The music exists originally in orchestral form so it had to be reduced to what we do,” Camwell told TrojanVision. “In this case, it was two saxes and a piano. Katarina did all the musical arranging.”

Camwell’s favorite part of the creative process was traveling.

“We went to some of the most beautiful Czech castles to film videos,” Camwell explained. “We wore fancy clothing and had different themes. One of them was a “hide and seek” theme, which was a lot fun to film. Being around such beauty to create this narrative in addition to the music was very fulfilling and very enjoyable.”

Camwell believes this collection of work offers something new in the world of saxophone-based music.

“I think the attention to detail is incredible,” Camwell said. “I love the excellent playing and production. I think the uniqueness of the videos along with the music is something people have never seen before. I’m proud of it.”

Viewers can stream Covert Ensemble‘s new project on all streaming platforms and Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. Later this month, Covert Ensemble will launch its tour on Sunday, Oct. 20th. The duo will be performing in University Hall at Columbus State.
