Art In Motion: Twisted Tales puts new twist on classic fairytales

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Fairytales with a twist: that’s the theme of this semester’s Art in Motion dance performance put on by theatre and dance students.

Although fairytales are not a new idea, students found a way to bring new life to the traditional stories.

“Fairytales but like how can we put a spin on it, how can we twist the tales to make them something no one’s ever seen before,” explained co-director and dancer Libby Wiley.

Coming up with the idea was just the first step for the production team, which consisted of just four students.

“It’s been a major process of trial and error because we are such a small group so it’s a lot of give and take,” co-director and dancer Jasmin Aranda said. “It was it was very difficult to come off as the perfect production team.”

Despite those obstacles, the production team and the dancers were able to create something they say they are extremely proud of and excited for the students to see.

“It is the epitome of passion and hard work, everything that will be seen on stage is student lead and that is just an incredible opportunity and I think it’s really special to see,” said dancer Carsyn Harris.

This performance is not just for the students but one that is special and personal to the dancers themselves.

“It’s meant a lot to me, especially with Carsyn being her last performance here, I wanted it to be special not just for her but for all the seniors and I really just wanted to give them a really good last aim,” Aranda said.

“Art in Motion was the reason that I came to Troy,” Harris told TrojanVision. “This is a little bit different for me because this is my last step here before I step out into the professional world.”
