IAC hosts artist reception, debuts three new exhibitions

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The International Arts Center (IAC) is featuring the work of several local artists with three new exhibitions.

Madison Faile‘s art exhibit titled “The End of Summer” was on full display Thursday night along with images from the Montgomery Photo Festival and work by University of Alabama art professor Jamey Grimes.

Students and community members gathered in the International Arts Center (IAC) to enjoy an evening full of art, photos, and refreshments.

“I’m a fine-arts major, so I try to be as actively involved with the art community here on campus and also off campus,” said Adi Gainey. “I love coming to receptions. All my professors are here, I like to see them outside of class. I also like looking at art.”

Troy alum and artist Faile also shared what he wanted observers to gain from his art.

“I want students and members of the community to see a fun, dynamic painting show. I want people to think about think narrative. Everyone brings their own life experience to the viewing of art. I want people to see different things in every piece.”

Photographer Richard Metzger was also present at the IAC and explained why the craft of photography interests him.

“I think the most interesting thing to me about photography is that it shows diversity, it shows a different way of life,” Metzger said. “It just brings us closer together.”

The exhibit also features Kalmia, a piece with around 120 hanging flower parts that are the focal point of the foyer gallery. The exhibit gave Jamey Grimes the chance to interact with a Troy students.

“It’s really nice to be able to do something in my home state that feels like it’s getting a professional level of support,” Grimes commented. “I really have appreciated being hosted at Troy. There have been a lot of different events that have been associated with me coming here and sharing my work. I’ve enjoyed meeting the students and faculty and the overall experience has been really pleasant.”

“The End of Summer” and images from the Montgomery Photo Festival will be on display in the IAC until Nov. 17. Kalmia will remain inside the IAC until Jan. 12.
