Troy Softball caps off fall ball with a win

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — After a slow start, Trojan Softball used momentum gained from an eight run fifth inning to take home a 14-2 win over Gulf Coast College.

“We started off kind of slow but overall came together and did some nice things,” said head coach Eric Newell. “It was kind of a grind but I’m excited to be on the good side.”

The Trojan defense should also be given its flowers as it only allowed two runs across ten innings.

“To hold the team to two runs in a ten-inning game is pretty solid,” said Newell. “I think we got a little greedy hoping to have a shutout, but to give up two runs in ten innings is a win.”

With that win over Gulf Coast, the Trojans cap off a fall ball schedule that saw them play three Power Four schools.

“We just talk about not being satisfied,” said Newell. “We went 5-3, we lost to the three power four programs we played but we really handle the Junior Colleges that we played.”

Now that the Trojans are officially done with fall ball, they will look to be even more impressive in the spring.

“We’re excited that we played well but there’s more we need to accomplish,” said Newell. “Now we really start gearing up to what we want to do this spring.”

The softball team hasn’t released its spring schedule. Once it is released fans will be able to view it here.
