Students donate thousands of food items to Trojan Pantry

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy’s Homecoming Committee managed a food donation drive for the philanthropy section of Homecoming week.

“Tins for Troy” allowed organizations to donate food for the Trojan Pantry

“I think the overall goal of this is just to bring the community together because, most of the time, Greeks don’t get together and do something all the time or other clubs on campus,” said Homecoming Welcome Week Committee Member Andrew Wells. “They don’t have an outlet to hang out with each other and this gives them that.

“This also allows the organizations and clubs to do philanthropy, which is important for almost every single club here on campus.”

Organizations brought food items such as canned goods, boxed cereal and microwaveable meals to the main quad.

“It’s just really important to us to just give back to Troy and the place that we are located in,” said Sigma Chi member Jackson Cowden. “We really care about this community, and we just feel like it’s our part to give back to just so much that they’ve given us.”

After the counting of the food items for each organization, students created a T for Troy with the collected items.

“Community service has always been big for me and joining Chi Omega is one of our values,” said Chi Omega member Gabby Richards. “Community service is important because Troy does so much for us as a sorority and just as a college student.

“Giving to the city is important because Troy loves Troy.”

A total of 6,732 items were collected.
