TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy University now offers students full-time access to free virtual mental health care.
With studies showing mental health to be the number one reason students drop out of college nationally, it is important that they have the resources they need. Troy is now offering a new resource for students that works around the clock to give them that.
“TimelyCare is 24/7, free access to virtual mental health care,” said Grace Wagstaff, Title IX Coordinator for Student Services. “If you are a full-time student registered at Troy’s campus, you download the app and get started. You use your Troy credentials to log in, and it’s that easy.”
The TimelyCare App offers access to countless services, including scheduled counseling, psychiatric support, health coaching, basic needs assistance, self-care and peer support.
“It’s a comprehensive addition to what students have access to in terms of their wellness here on campus,” Wagstaff said. “For the self-care journeys, you can click something, and it will take you through ten different modules of yoga, or meditation for stress, etc. There are hundreds and hundreds of options.”

Scheduled counseling connects students who need to talk with a live professional in a matter of hours. For more serious situations, there is an on-demand support feature.
“The TalkNow feature is especially great when you’re in a crisis,” Wagstaff said. “Say it’s 2:30 in the morning, you’re having a panic attack, and you need to talk to somebody. It takes a couple of minutes to connect you to somebody, and that person is not only going to provide you healthcare, but they’re going to connect you with any kinds of resources that you may need.”
Wagstaff says this immediacy is what sets the TimelyCare app apart from other resources.
“A crisis doesn’t schedule an appointment,” Wagstaff said. “The 24/7 access was really important to us. We can see that the needs of students are evolving and changing.”
The app works in partnership with other student resources on campus, connecting students to the help they need. Other resources include the Office of Civic Engagement and the Student Counseling Services.
