ORIGINAL STORY: TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — What started as a noise and large crowd complaint turned into a homicide investigation Saturday night.
According to the Troy Police Department (TPD), Nyreesh Amari Smith was just two hours away from his 20th birthday when he was shot and killed in the 100 block of Dunn Circle.
Police said it happened as officers worked to clear a large party 100 to 250 people big. As people began to clear out, shots were fired and officers found Smith lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds.
“They administered first aid to the young man,” said TPD Chief Danny Barron. “Not long after they started first aid, our the medics responded very quick, started rendering CPR as well, and before they could get him to the hospital, he was deceased.”
Despite the large number of people at the party, police say few have come forward.

“We know there were a lot of witnesses that saw what happened,” Barron told TrojanVision. “I understand that it’s tough. People don’t want to get involved in something like this, and I completely understand that, but if it had been your brother or your sister or somebody in your family, you would want somebody to step forward.”

Officers believe there may be people who live outside of Troy who have critical information.
“There were people at that party that were not from Troy,” Barron explained. “There were people there from Dothan. There were people there from other areas. You bring people from from all around to one location, and when you get alcohol involved and other things involved, there’s always the probability or the possibility that there could be trouble.”
As officers work to uncover more information, Barron urges anyone with information to contact the department and help officers bring Smith’s killer to justice.
