TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Parents of incoming TROY students had the opportunity to meet the people charged with keeping their kids safe during their time at Troy.
“We hope to ease all of the questions, worries, doubts, fears that they possibly have,” said Sgt. Rachel Farmer of Troy University Police Department (TUPD). “Sending their child, that’s not a child anymore, that’s an adult, off to a new place.”
Parents learned about the services that TUPD offers to students to ensure their safety, such as walking them home and combating drunk driving.
“Our Choose Your Ride program is a really good one,” Farmer explained. “A lot of our students think it’s a trap, it’s not, we want people to choose safe driving over drunk driving.”

Along with officers, parents also met and heard from TUPD Police Chief George Beaudry. Afterward, they were given time to ask questions about any concerns that they had.
“In today’s world, with school shootings and stuff, everybody would have fears,” said Joe Campbell, a parent of an incoming student. “But, I think Chief [Beaudry] and his department did an excellent job of quelling or squashing any fears that I would’ve had.
“They seemed very professional and seem like they have everything dialed in,” Campbell said.
This year marks the third year that TUPD has met and spoken with parents as a part of IMPACT.
