TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy’s National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) welcomed talent from students for a night full of dancing and singing.
Thursday night, Troy’s NABJ hosted Apollo night inside the Trojan Center ballrooms.
“We had a good time,” NABJ President Tyren Robinson said. Thank you for everybody for coming out and we’re excited to see what else we are going to be doing for the rest of the year.”
Participants of Apollo Night were able to showcase their talents with singing and dancing.
“[I’ve] always been a performer,” student said Xavier Brooks. “I’ve always loved performing in front of audiences. Even if I didn’t have like a prompt or anything. Tell me just go out there and just wing it, and see what happens.”
WELCOME WEEK ’25: Taste of Troy combines students, businesses, and downtown fun
Proceeds from Apollo Night will go to the local Boys and Girls Club.
“The Boys and Girls Club is like a mentorship program here in Troy,” Robinson explained. “It takes underage boys and girls from the surrounding high schools in the Troy area and basically tutors them in all subjects in their schools, and also provides them mentorship and guidance in their day-to-day lives and keeps them out of trouble.”
The NABJ hopes that Apollo Night will boost its involvement across campus.
“We are working on a new brand for organization, which is Boots on the Ground, as the famous song. That is being more active on campus and getting involved with the other organizations on campus to bring more events to students.”
The NABJ is an organization that advocates on behalf of black journalists and assist members with finding connections for future careers.
