TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Wednesday night, Troy University continued its Welcome Week with a silent disco, using it as a way for students to get connected.
Silent Disco works by allowing a pair of headphones to tune into a DJ’s station. It allows the user to change stations based on what music they like instead of relying on one DJ. Despite participants wearing headphones, organizers say the event helps students break out of their shells.
“I actually do think it’s a great way to get involved on campus with all the people that come out to the events,” University Activities Council (UAC) President Jamie Parker said. “It’s so easy to make friends, connect, network, and find somebody that could probably be your best friend for life, maybe even marry one day. I think it’s a great time to come out, especially at a big event like Silent Disco.”
The Silent Disco allowed students to tune into one of three stations. Music ranged from 2000’s pop, rap, and line dancing.

“Everybody grabbing headphones, just having a good time,” Parker told TrojanVision.
For some students, the Silent Disco takes away the nerves of meeting new people.
“I like that you can be yourself because everybody’s in their own world, so you can just do whatever,” student Lindsey Bright said.
According to Parker, events like Silent Disco can make a student’s college experience unforgettable.
“If you come out to events every Wednesday like this, and if we have this amount of attendance every event, Troy be the best place for the,” Parker said.
This year’s Welcome Week featured over 20 different events over the course of two weeks.
