TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy’s English department is finding a new way to bring students together while increasing interest in English literature.
A new student organization has made its way to campus, the Lit Happens book club. The club had its first meeting of the semester Tuesday night where students suggested books for the club to read. The club is the byproduct of suggestions from students in the English department.
“Last semester in the spring, actually, Dr. [Kirk] Curnutt hosted a get to know your major, pizza day in one of the rooms downstairs here in the department,” senior English major Alivia Radovich said. “He was just asking what classes could we add? What are you guys thinking? How can we get more students involved with English?”

“I think the book club is just such a great place to get people from all different majors to come together and just hang out and and make some friends,” English professor Katelyn Schuler said.
Five books will be chosen for the club to read and discuss over the semester. The first meeting was a chance to introduce students to each other and share their reading tastes with one another. Students of all majors are welcome to join Lit Happens.
“Really gave gives people a chance to delve into what they find interesting, and what can support them through hard times, and just a fun little hobby,” said freshman nursing major Sarah Rhodes.
From romance to classic literature, the book club is bringing students together one page at a time.
