TROY. Ala (TROJANVISION) — The Anthropology Club is using movie night to bring students together and highlight some of the fields they are studying.

The club recently screened ‘The Silence Of The Lambs” after a vote by forensic majors.

“We have had an influx of criminology students and forensic students.” said Marlee Brand, President of Anthropology Club. “We wanted everyone to feel included.

“With that Influx, we decided to open up the vote with anthropology, archaeology, and forensic movies.”

Although the film depicts a forensic investigation, members recognize Hollywood’s tendency to glamorize the field.

“We always try to watch movies that are kind of versed in the fields that we are going into, these romanticized idolized views.”

The growing interest in these fields may be connected to the growth of the programs themselves.

According to Brand, Troy’s forensic anthropology faulty also has been expanding.

“Our criminology and specifically our forensic anthropology teachers, staff, and educators are amazing,” Brand said. “When I got here, we first got Dr. Wiedenmeyer, who is wonderful.

“This year, we’ve added another forensic professor. We are just growing and growing, and as the staff, amazing teachers and faculty grow exponentially, so do the students.”

As the program continues to grow, so does student interest, giving them more opportunities to explore what happens behind the cases they see on screen.
