TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy City Mayor Jason Reeves has been chosen as one of Troy University’s Alumni of the Year.

Reeves attended Troy in the 1990s and graduated in 2001.

“A lot of what I do, I learned for the first time at the university and being involved on campus, ” said Jason Reeves, Troy City Mayor. “There were tons of things that I learned that led to my election to the city council that next year.

“It’s really exciting for me to be able to celebrate this and all of the things that have helped me.” 

While on campus, Reeves served as Student Government Association president. He credits most of his career to lessons he learned while holding office on campus.

“Obviously, being involved as SGA president got me thinking about public service,” Reeves said. “Being able to go from SGA president in 1994 to 1995 to being elected to the city council in 1996 was a key part of my leap into public service.”

Reeves has been a resident of Troy his whole life. He expressed how grateful he is for the city and the university’s support.

“It makes me feel really proud. It’s a very humbling experience. I grew up in Troy, went to Troy University, was SGA president, and was very involved. This is such an honor for me and my family. I’m very grateful.”

The Alumni of the Year awards will be given during the halftime show during homecoming week.
