TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — While her dominant play on the court might be a sure thing, middle hitter Ashlynn Axtell was not sure where she would play college ball.
That was until she visited Troy’s campus, and for the last two years, she has been a force to be reckoned with on the court.
“I think I came on my visit not really sure that I wanted to commit or where my head was at, and I committed the Sunday of my visit,” Axtell said. “I fell in love with the team, I fell in love with the coaching, coaching was super important for me, and I just love the way that Josh [Lauer] and Brian [Muesenfechter] carry themselves and I think that was the biggest factor for me.”
In her time at Troy, Axtell says she has formed solid relationships with her teammates. She feels these relationships help boost her play, and she would not have it any other way.
“I think for me it just feels like a second home, like I’ve never really had the desire to change anything, I’m happy where I’m at,” Axtell said. “I want to be successful in this team, not like, somewhere else.”
That team chemistry has helped the team think alike as members and share similar goals for the season.
“I think the conversation we have all been collectively having is that we all want to be apart of something great here, like Troy has never won a conference championship in volleyball before,” Axtell said. “We all want to be apart of the first team to do that, and I think that collective mindset that everybody has to do something great here, really makes you want to stay in it for everyone else.”
Axtell and the Trojans look to keep improving throughout the season, and rack up more wins together.
