Trojan Day gives visitors a glimpse of life at Troy

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Visitors got a closer look at life as a Troy University student during Saturday’s Trojan Day.

On Oct. 24, students and their families toured campus with Trojan Ambassadors, who shared their experiences and introduced visitors to different aspects of university life.

Thomas Myers, a sophomore electrical and electronics engineering major from Brantley, Alabama, served as one of the Trojan Ambassadors helping visitors become familiar with the university.

For Myers, one of the most rewarding parts of the experience was meeting people from different backgrounds and helping them make connections on campus.

“It’s just the connection and being able to meet new people,” Myers said. “That’s one of the things I love so much about Troy.”

Myers said his tour included visitors from across the country, giving him an opportunity to meet people who were considering taking the next step in their education at Troy.

Beyond the connections students can make with one another, Myers said his own experience at the university showed him how much support was available from faculty and staff.

“When I came in, I didn’t realize so many people here that were here and wanting to help me,” Myers said. “There’s people and faculty members everywhere on campus, and they wanna see you succeed and better yourself as you prepare yourself for your future.”

He encouraged incoming students to become involved on campus, even if they initially feel nervous about meeting new people or participating in activities.

That welcoming atmosphere also stood out to visiting high school senior Keniyla Posey.

Posey, who is from Jefferson County, Alabama, had visited campus before. Her brother previously attended Troy and played football, but she was still interested in learning more about what the university could offer.

Posey said she was considering studying accounting and had heard positive things about Troy’s program.

Along with her academic interests, Posey said the atmosphere on campus and the way people treated visitors made an impression on her.

“I really just enjoyed the environment and the campus,” Posey said. “Everybody was very, very, very respectful, very sweet. I felt pretty safe here.”

Posey said the willingness of people on campus to answer questions and help visitors contributed to her positive experience.

“Everybody is just very welcoming,” Posey said. “I think that that’ll be a great help, and they would really consider me and make me feel welcome and like this is my home.”
