TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Move-in weekend is upon us, and Troy University is introducing a new system to make the moving process more efficient.

“This year they have staggered move-in times,” said Troy University Chief of Police George Beaudry. “It is really important that students who are moving in understand what time they are allowed to be here.

“They received that information from housing, so if they are not reading those emails from housing, they need to go back and read them because if they get here when they are not supposed to be here, they’re not going to be given their keys and they’re not going to be allowed access to the dorms.”

While the staggered move-in times are meant to help with the chaos of the weekend, Chief Beaudry reminded both parents and students to bring their patience, as it can be a long and stressful day.

“Bring your patience because it is a long day and there is a lot of stress that we understand goes into dropping off your student sometimes for the first time, first student that you have ever had leave the house,” Beaudry said. “We get all that, and we try to take that into account, but we need you to be patient, work with us, and work with housing.”

If you are still packing up and are trying to make sure you have everything you can need, one former student says there is no telling what you will need until you are here.

“You really don’t know what you need until you are here, and then you either have too much or don’t have enough,” said Ian Maddox, a former student and the Campus Missionary at the BCM. “I think one of the most important things is being ready to go to Walmart right after.

“I think it is less about having everything that you need and more about being willing to go out, get what you don’t have and being willing to send home what you have too much of.”

If your bags are packed and you have begun your journey to Troy, you do not have to try to move everything into your dorm alone. Members from Greek Life, Elite Men 101, Baptist Campus Ministries, and the Church of the Highlands will be scattered across campus to help with the move.
