Troy Soccer marks first shutout of the year

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy Soccer marked its first shutout of the year after competing against Lipscomb.

After two unsuccessful away matches, Troy Soccer came home and recorded a 1-0 victory over Lipscomb at the Troy Soccer Complex.

“I think we edged it, since the second half was more them,” said head coach Stuart Gore. “I think that’s just the nature of the game, the nature of the score. They were trying to chase the game.”

After the Trojans were tied with the Bison’s 0-0 before halftime, freshman Hailey Phillips headed the ball into the goal, putting the Trojans on the board while marking her first goal of her collegiate career.

“It was a tough match,” said midfielder Hailey Phillips. “It was definitely tiring with a lot of running, but the greats came out with the win. I think we played better, since going out there was all we wanted.”

Throughout the game, Troy made four shots on goal and held their strongest offensive performance of the season. Moving forward, the team intends to keep the momentum high as they continue on throughout the season.

“We just have to keep facing a different opponent,” Gore said. “We were on the road, so we just got to focus on the next game and see what they have for us.”

The game-winner was set by goalkeeper Une Georgsen, who also anchored the Trojan Defense that day.

The Trojans then took on Nicholls in Thibodaux, Louisiana on Tuesday night, resulting in a 2-1 victory.
