The Monroe County Chapter of the Troy University Alumni Association has become the latest chapter to endow a scholarship to benefit deserving TROY students.
Jack Weaver, a member of the Troy University Alumni Association Board of Directors and longtime Monroe County chapter member, presented the final installment to Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, on Friday. Monroe County now becomes the 10th TROY alumni chapter to endow a scholarship.
“It is the culmination of a lot of hard work by various individuals in the alumni chapter to complete this endowment,” Weaver said. “Hopefully this will benefit some young people in the future as they endeavor to get an education at Troy University.”
The scholarship will assist incoming TROY freshmen from Monroe County who plan to attend the Troy Campus. The scholarships will be awarded for the academic year beginning in fall 2024 and will be good for one year only. Recipients must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.8.
Faith Byrd, Director of Alumni Affairs, said the TROY Alumni Association has placed an emphasis on endowing and providing scholarships for deserving students.
“These scholarships enhance the University’s efforts to recruit quality students, and a lot of work is done, each year, by our chapters to provide opportunities for TROY students,” Byrd said. “I am proud that 10 chapters have now met the achievement of endowed scholarships and adding to their existing scholarships, and other chapters are working diligently toward that goal.”
Monroe County joins a growing list of those who have endowed scholarships, including Archer, Alumni Band, Clipson, Conecuh, Elba, Emerald Coast, Pensacola, the T-Club and Trojan Tailgaters.
