Dr. Brandy Simpler, a TROY alumna and an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing, is the recipient of Troy University’s 2026 Ingalls Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching.

Simpler was announced as the recipient of the award by TROY Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academics and Provost Dr. Kerry Palmer during the University’s annual Honors Convocation held April 15 in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus.

The Ingalls Award is given annually to the teacher on the Troy Campus who has “most diligently, effectively and cheerfully conducted his or her classes during the current academic year.” Students nominate faculty members for the award, and a committee of students and faculty advisors selects the recipient. The award consists of a statue of Socrates, a plaque and a check for $1,000.

“Receiving the Ingalls Award is truly an honor,” Simpler said. “Knowing that the nomination came from my students makes it even more meaningful, because it reminds me of the purpose behind what I do. I am grateful for this recognition and for the trust and support that it reflects.”

A two-time TROY graduate, Simpler earned her bachelor’s in nursing in 2008 and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2018. She is a Registered Nurse in Alabama and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Simpler’s research interests include emergency nursing, evidence-based practice, simulation in nursing education and surgical nursing. Her clinical focus is in the area of emergency nursing and surgical nursing.
