TROY Bass Team knocks out favorite teams in first-ever tourney win on Lake Demopolis

The TROY Bass Team took top honors in their first-ever tournament win.

The TROY Bass Team took top honors in their first-ever tournament win.

Troy University’s Bass Team notched a school-first, top-place finish in October on Lake Demopolis.

Fischer Barber and Brian Haire finished first out 50 teams from nine colleges for the first tournament win in school history. The team won a $1,000 purse.

In addition to the first-place finish, Avery Padgett and Kasen Pemberton placed 12th overall and Jaxon Leverette and James Lamberth rounded out the top 25 for a strong overall finish for the Trojans, besting favorites University of Montevallo and University of Alabama.

The TROY team also brought in the fifth-largest fish of the tournament. The teams practiced three days on the lake and competition was held on the fourth day.

“There’s a lot of young talent on the team this year, and we’re looking forward to many more wins,” Barber said.
