“InChoir,” a collaborative effort between the College of Communication and Fine Arts and TROY Public Radio, launched its second season on November 13.
The podcast, which promotes conversations about choral music, the arts, and life, is co-hosted by Dr. Diane Orlofsky, TROY Professor Emerita of Music and Music Education and Graduate Coordinator/Advisor for Music Education, and Dr. Scott Sexton, Assistant Professor of Music Education.
“Diane and I have a long history of informally chatting about the newest choral music, and this podcast is a great project to tie together this collaboration and share it on a larger scale with others,” Dr. Sexton said. “In addition to highlighting composers and their new music, one goal is to let people know that choral music is for everyone, and works in so many facets of our lives. We are especially proud of Season 2 and we have expanded our circle of composers to include more international composers and more women. The first episode of Season 1 features an arrangement of a Christmas carol, so this would also be a small way to get into the holiday spirit!”
The first episode, titled “In Her Image,” features Canadian composer and educator, Sarah Quartel and her fresh and exciting approach to choral music. During each episode of the podcast, listeners will get to hear music from the featured composer.
“We make it our goal with InChoir to feature composers who are truly making a difference through their compositions,” Dr. Orlofsky said. “All of the featured composers believe passionately about the role of music and music education in the lives of individuals; we think you will hear that commitment in the interviews as they share with us the ‘stories behind the songs.’ We think every listener will find something that speaks to them and, in the process, may learn to appreciate the choral arts even more.”
Episodes will air weekly until December 11 and range from 30-35 minutes long. “InChoir” is currently available through TROY Public Radio, NPR One, PodBean, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Player FM, Samsung Podcasts, Podchaser and Boomplay.
