Commission Chair Singleton to address graduates at TROY’s Montgomery Campus

The Spring Commencement ceremony at the Montgomery Campus will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 20 in the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Montgomery County Commission Chairman Doug Singleton will deliver the keynote address to graduates at Troy University’s Montgomery Campus during the spring commencement ceremony on May 20.

The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. About 125 students are expected to participate in the ceremony with associate, bachelor’s, master’s and education specialist degrees will be conferred.

Singleton, who represents District 5, has served on the Commission since November 2016.

His career has included stints as Branch Manager for Xerox Business Systems Southeast, Sales Center Manager for The Coca-Cola Co., a small business owner and operator and sales and marketing for a national company.

He has served as Chairman of the Board of the Central Alabama Consortium, a member of the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department Advisory Board, Chair of the Board of the Montgomery American Youth Baseball and Softball, member of the Committee of 100 Board of Control and Economic Development, Montgomery Miracle League Founder and President, the Board of the Metropolitan Planning Organization and board member for the Garrett Coliseum Cooperative. He is a past member of the Board of Stewards for Frazer Church, a Sunday school teacher, a current Upward Basketball volunteer and a current Crowne Nursing Home volunteer.

In 2011, the Montgomery Miracle League Field was named in Singleton’s honor. He has received the Volunteer and Information Center’s Adult Volunteer of the Year Award (2008), The Junior League’s Adult Volunteer of the Year Award (2008), the Judge Joseph D. Phelps Friend of Youth Award (2007), the Optimist Club of Downtown Montgomery’s Youth Award (2007), the Montgomery American Commissioners Award (2005) and was inducted into the Huntingdon College Athletic Hall of Fame (2000).

Singleton is married to Dawn Vandiver Singleton, and the couple has three children: Tison, Caroline, and Brooke. Singleton is an active Member of Frazer Church.
