Enterprise City Schools Superintendent to deliver keynote address at TROY Dothan commencement

Dr. Zel Thomas, Superintendent of Enterprise City Schools, will provide the keynote address at TROY Dothan’s Fall Commencement on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at the Dothan Civic Center.

Over 100 undergrad and graduate students will receive their degrees during the ceremony. Tickets are not required.

Thomas earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from TROY Dothan in 1994 followed by his master’s degree in education leadership in 1998, also from TROY Dothan. He obtained his Ph.D. in adult education from Auburn University in 2018. 

He has served as Superintendent in the Enterprise City Schools System since 2021, but has worked in public education for over 30 years.

Thomas began his career as an elementary school teacher at Lisenby Elementary School in Ozark, Alabama, where he taught second, third and fourth grade for five years. His administrative career began when he accepted the role of Assistant Principal at A.M. Windam Elementary School before moving to Daleville High School. In 2002, he was named Principal of Abbeville High School and later served as Principal at Pinedale Elementary School.

In 2014, Thomas transitioned to the role of Coordinator of Student Services at Enterprise City Schools (ECS), and in 2017 he was named Assistant Superintendent of ECS.

He is an active member of various professional organizations, serving a board member of the Troy Regional In-service Center and the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce. He also holds significant positions within the National Beta Club, including Alabama State Chair and a member of the National Board of Directors.
