The Honorable Jerusha T. Adams, Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, will be the guest speaker for Troy University’s Constitution Day 2026 event on Monday, Sept. 14 in the Trojan Center Ballrooms on the Troy Campus.

The event, which is set for 3 p.m., is sponsored by the University’s College of Education and Behavioral Sciences and the TROY Pre-Law Society. The event will be led by Pre-Law Society officers and organized by Pre-Law Society advisors Dr. Lisa Harden and Dr. Adam Rutkowski.

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day commemorates the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution by the 39 delegates to the Constitutional Convention.

During the event, TROY’s vocal jazz ensemble, frequency, will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” under the direction of Dr. Scott Sexton.

Judge Adams was sworn in as a United States Magistrate Judge on Nov. 12, 2019. Before being appointed to the bench, Judge Adams was a partner and civil litigator at the law firm of Capell & Howard P.C., specializing in labor and employment law. Before entering private practice, she served as an Assistant United States Attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama for over 11 years, working in the Criminal and Civil Divisions. Judge Adams also served as Senior Litigation Counsel at the United States Attorney’s Office for four years.

Early in her career, Judge Adams served as the career judicial law clerk for the Honorable W. Keith Watkins, United States District Judge of the Middle District of Alabama, chambers staff attorney for the Honorable Joel F. Dubina, Senior United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, judicial law clerk to former United States District Judge Mark E. Fuller, judicial law clerk to former United States District Judge Truman M. Hobbs, and judicial law clerk to retired United States Magistrate Judge Vanzetta Penn McPherson.

Judge Adams is a member of the Hugh Maddox Inn of Court and a Past President of the Montgomery Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and her Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law.
