Dr. Josh McGowan has been named Director of the William H. Carr School of Accountancy in Troy University’s Sorrell College of Business.

McGowan, an associate professor, previously served as Associate Director of the School. His appointment came in August.

“We are so pleased that Dr. McGowan is at the helm of the Carr School. As a two-time graduate of our accounting program, there is no doubt he understands and will continue the proud tradition of accountancy here at Troy University.” said Sorrell College Dean Dr. Judson Edwards. “I have been very blessed to work with accomplished Carr School leaders, like Dr. Lorraine Magrath and Dr. Steve Grice and have no doubt Josh will do an excellent job.”

McGowan holds the DBA in Accounting from Creighton University and holds both an undergraduate business administration degree and Master of Accountancy degree from TROY. Prior to joining the Sorrell College, he served as CFO of Nautical Options – Freedom Boat Club and was an audit associate for Warren Averett, LLC.

“It is an incredible honor to be appointed as the Director of the William H. Carr School of Accountancy, a place that holds a special significance for me as an alumnus. Troy University and the Carr School of Accountancy have both shaped my academic and professional journal and I’m deeply committed to continuing its tradition of excellence,” McGowan said.

He said his priorities for the School included enhancing the already strong relationships the School enjoys with employers, engaging the alumni base and continued focus on preparing students to pass the certified public accountants exam.

“By deepening these partnerships, we can expand internships, job placements and professional development initiatives, ensuring our students are fully equipped for the workforce,” he said.
