Five films made by Troy University design students have been named as Official Selections in the 2025 UNA George Lindsey Film Festival.

Reanna Thompson, Nathan Hobbs, Howard Purvee, Zack Pappanastos, Jared Hester, and Laken Lee will all have their films featured during the 28th annual festival.

The Official Selections are:

  • “Killer Hand,” a short film by Reanna Thompson and Laken Lee
  • “I’m Living In Your Attic,” a short film by Howard Purvee
  • “CAIN,” a short film by Nathan Hobbs
  • “Happy Birthday Greg,” a short film by Studio 207
  • “Paranoia,” a short film by Zack Pappanastos

“The films selected by UNA are the best of the best from our department – a combination of Thesis projects and passion projects from our students,” said Chris Stagl, Associate Professor of Design. “I could not be happier with the films chosen.”

Reanna Thompson’s film, “Killer Hand,” was directed and produced by her and fellow classmate Laken Lee with the help of 8 high school students who attended the 2024 Summer Film Camp.

“This is my first, but not last, big win as a filmmaker, I can promise you that,” said Thompson. “It was so much fun working with the high school students who participated, and I cannot wait for this year’s summer camp.”

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is hosted each year by the University of North Alabama. The festival was founded by celebrated entertainer George Lindsey, along with now-deceased communications professor Bobby Hurt and retired Office of Communications Director, Bill Jarnigain.

George Lindsey is well known for his role of Goober Pyle on the “Andy Griffith Show” and many other credits in television, including episodes of “Hee Haw,” “The Twilight Zone,” “The Alfred Hitchcock Hour,” “Gunsmoke,” “M*A*S*H,” and as the host of Turner South’s Emmy award-winning “Liars & Legends.”

“These films took a lot of time and effort to complete, and every laurel makes it that much more worth it,” Hobbs said. “George Lindsey is especially exciting because it’s a local Alabama festival, which is really cool, and I’ve also got some friends up there involved in this festival. I’m super proud of all these films and the team that helped me do what I’ve always wanted.”
