Troy University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors has new leadership.
Effective Jan. 1, Rosemary Elebash became the Board’s President, Jack Weaver its Vice President and Steve Sanders its treasurer. Roni Holley is the Immediate Past President. The officers will serve two-year terms.
Elebash, a 1976 TROY graduate, has been a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors since 2010 and previously served as the Board’s Vice President. She currently serves as state director for the National Federation of Independent Business.
Weaver, a 1985 TROY graduate, is the presiding Judge for the Thirty-Fifth Circuit Court of Alabama in Monroe County and has been a member of the board since 2018. To date, 11 members of the Weaver family boast TROY degrees.
Sanders, a 1988 TROY graduate, is Vice President of the First Citizens Bank of Luverne. Sanders joined the board in 2017.
In addition, Terry L. Butts, a 1979 graduate and a retired Alabama Supreme Court Justice, serves as the Board’s Legal Counsel.
Elebash said the creation of scholarship opportunities for deserving students will continue to be a primary focus of the Alumni Board moving forward.
“The major focus for the Alumni Board is scholarships from the board and also encouraging local Alumni Chapters to create and endow scholarships,” Elebash said.
In 2020, the Alumni Board received donations from board members, exceeding its $50,000 goal, to endow the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. The endowment provides scholarship to students who are qualified legacies of Troy University graduates who maintain at least a 2.7 grade point average. “Legacies” are the children of TROY alumni.
In addition, nine alumni chapters have endowed scholarships — the Alumni Band Chapter, the Clipson Chapter, the Conecuh County Chapter, the Elba Chapter, the Emerald Coast Chapter, the Trojan Tailgaters Chapter, the Pensacola Chapter and the T-Club. Three additional chapters – the Autauga, Monroe and Pike County chapters – are working to complete their endowments.
Another item that continues to receive a lot of discussion among board members is the addition of a new Alumni Center.
“The Board also continues to explore the possibility of building an Alumni Center to accommodate and support alumni activities and to provide a building that can be utilized for functions to highlight the Troy Campus for both potential students and returning alumni,” she said.
