In addition to the first day of classes for the fall semester at Troy University, Wednesday also marked the debut of the newly renovated Trojan Center, and students were buzzing about the changes.

In addition to an expanded seating capacity of about 450, the Trojan Center now features Steak ‘n Shake, Boar’s Head Deli, Marble Slab Creamery and Great American Cookie.

Existing Trojan Center dining options such as Chick-fil-A, Einstein Bros. Bagels and Mein Bowl have also been remodeled and expanded to include more options.

“This is definitely a great change,” said Justin Knight, a junior. “I remember when this was pretty much just Chick-fil-A and the marketplace. I think it’s great, especially to accommodate all the new freshmen that are coming in. Things just look a lot sleeker and cleaner.”

Junior Zachary Johnston said students spend more time in the Trojan Center than other recreational areas around campus.

“If I just want to come down here and get a drink, I don’t have to pay to get in like at SAGA,” he said. “This will take some getting used to, but it’s a healthy change. It’s more modern and crisp.”

Jake Harris said lines were long Wednesday, but he was pleased with how the new Trojan Center looks and feels.

“It looks a lot nicer,” said Harris, a junior. “First off, I like that we have Marble Slab Creamery and Great American Cookies. Those are things that everyone will enjoy. I like the atmosphere. It seems more modern and nicer, and it definitely feels like it’s more open.”

Knight, echoing the sentiments of several students, said he was most excited about trying the food at Steak ‘n Shake and Great American Cookies.
