Troy University’s Welcome Week 2021 is right around the corner and TROY’s organizations are gearing up to find ways for incoming students to have fun while getting involved.
Welcome Week activities will start during move-in day on Saturday, August 7, and will end Saturday, August 21.
Students can expect events that are not only fun but enables them to meet new people, including activities like silent disco, scavenger hunts, bingo night, snow cones on the Quad, painting, worship nights and even a lip sync battle.
Welcome Week coordinator Sadaris Williams says the priority of the week’s activities is to get students involved and engaged while lessening the load of moving.
“We have a lot of new students on our campus,” Williams said. “We want to show them the importance of being engaged.
“The other purpose is to help students feel at home and feel like they can find friends on campus.”
Not only does Welcome Week allow new students to meet new people, but it also allows them to learn more about TROY’s campus as well.
“When students are engaged on campus, they can easily find and meet new people, and they can easily find different ways to get involved on campus,” Williams said. “It helps them learn how to love TROY like everybody else has learned to love TROY.”
Welcome Week also gives new students the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone.
“Most students spent the last four years of their life in high school and being around everyone they’ve known their whole lives,” Williams said. “Now, for the first time, they’re put in a place where they may not know more than four people, and they don’t know everything else around them.
“They don’t know the faculty, and sometimes they don’t know their roommates. It’s a great way to find your niche. It’s also a great way to find out what TROY has to offer.”
Students can find the Welcome Week schedule for 2021 on the organization’s website.
