Troy University Student Government Association holds Battle for the Belt Food Drive.

This weekend is the Battle for The Belt, the annual rivalry football game between Troy and South Alabama. While the teams will decide the winner of the coveted belt on Saturday, all this week students from both schools have a battle of their own leading up to the game, one that can help feed the hungry.

“We’re hosting a canned food drive against South Alabama, says SGA Community Service Coordinator Tairrque Baker. “We have our big rival game coming up against South Alabama this Saturday but we have also found a new way to incorporate some competition and that is through our canned food drive. So during this entire week we’re hosting a canned food drive for students they can bring their cans to the SGA office.”

SGA President Maxwell George says this drive is a good way for students to get excited about the game while also helping those in need.

“I really just think it’s a great way to compete against South and to beat South in a lot of different ways that we’re going to this week on the field, in our community and also to give back to our community,” says George.
