Troy University‘s Office of Civic Engagement members and volunteers say they aim to give back to the community in a multitude of ways.
“We do Campus Kitchens and Backpacks for Kids,” says Campus Kitchens Team Leader Teyshaun Williams. “Backpacks for Kids, we do it every other week and then we do Campus Kitchens every week.”
Backpack for Kids is a program that specializes in giving children in the local community a nutritional meal which includes a variety of food items.
“An entre, two breakfast items, two snacks and then one fruit,” says Williams.
Ages for children receive a backpack varies from anywhere from elementary to middle school kids.
One member says the act of giving back can also be fulfilling for volunteers.
“Knowing that the thing that I get to do every day will go a long way in a child’s life,” says Volunteer Adaela Peak.
